The Most Comfortable Pencil Skirt: The Work-It Skirt by BetaBrand

The Most Comfortable Pencil Skirt: The Work-It Skirt by BetaBrand

First, BetaBrand brought us yoga pants disguised as works pants. Now, they’ve created an incredibly comfortable pencil skirt: the Work-It Pencil Skirt. I’ve been searching for a stretchy pencil skirt for a few years, since I lucked out and found one at Club Monaco back in 2010. That one needs to retire, and was time to find a replacement. My Google searches for comfortable pencil skirts brought up tight, slinky skirts that were only nightclub appropriate. I needed a super comfortable pencil skirt with thick material that has some give when I sit or drink too many sparkling waters.

Living in the land of start-ups often means that I get first-access to a ton of disruptive new businesses. With my full time job, full load of side projects, and penchant for over booking myself, my favorite services allow me to save time with on-demand delivery straight to my door. This isn’t just for groceries (Instacart), late night cookie cravings (Doughbies), or last minute booze (Saucey) – it’s for everything, including my wardrobe. Queue Le Tote – the subscription, “on-demand” wardrobe service for clothing, accessories, handbags, and jewelry.

Le Tote delivers new styles straight to your door for one flat monthly fee, that you can return for new pieces as often as you like. Spring Has Sprung: Kimono Inspired Maxi Dress by Privacy Please

Spring is a time when everyone gets excited to shed winter layers, and fill their wardrobes with bold colors and light fabrics. It’s a perfect excuse to wear loud floral prints from head to toe! I was drawn to this maxi dress for it’s bold print and flattering wrap around style. Wrap around dresses (especially with plunging necklines) draw the eye to all the right places, and can be comfortably adjusted to any body type – curves or no curves. They are a mainstay in both my casual and corporate wardrobes. This maxi dress is romantic, and perfect for a date night or evening event. Paired with a pair of espadrilles that I’ve had for years here, it also looks fantastic with nude stilettos. Enjoy!

It’s easy to wear a slip dress from day to night, a sleek, simple cut makes this piece like a blank canvas for layering on accessories and adding jackets to change up the look. This silky, silvery grey number from EXPRESS Runway is one of my favorite spring dresses for that reason, and will be coming on multiple trips with me this spring. Instant De-Stressor: The World’s Cutest Knee High Socks

When life gets stressful, you can cope by watching cute baby animal videos, eating  chocolate, or looking down at your whimsical knee high socks. While the term ‘knee high socks’ might conjur up visions of bad Halloween costumes or stuffy private school uniforms, these cuties by Chrissy’s Socks are in a league of their own. They come in a ton of adorable prints and colors, and wouldn’t you know –  you can even design your own.

I wear mine around the house with my pajama shorts instead of sweatpants. The watermelon ones look especially good with my banana print boxers – not pictured…I know, sorry! I’ve seen a meme that says, “Life’s too short to wear mediocre underwear.” Well, I think life is too short to wear mediocre socks, even if you’re the only person who’s going to see them. I dare you – wear a pair of wild knee high socks under your jeans or in your tall boots, and definitely around the house. Happy socking!

As a Vancouver girl and die hard Lululemon supporter I couldn’t wait to try my first piece of Kit and Ace clothing,  launched out of Vancouver by the son of Lululemon founder Chip Wilson.   The line is best know for its technical cashmere, a blend designed to withstand washing, drying, and real-life wear and tear. The line is characterized by unique silhouettes, neutral colors, and chic interpretations of wardrobe basics. Tops, bottoms, and outerwear can be mixed and matched.

How To Wear Winter Booties in Spring: Feat. Cole Haan

Thankfully the great thing about California is that we embrace all things slightly western inspired and one of the staple casual looks here is to wear your winter booties in spring and all year long for that matter. This is how I wear my winter booties in spring – with a floral dress! Even in SoCal or Palm Springs with their blistering summer heat, chances are you’ll be in the air conditioning anyway, right?

Last year, I complained that it didn’t get cold enough to wear my winter booties or sweaters, but this year San Francisco was unseasonably cold and rainy. Though one good thing about the rain we’ve had is how lush and green everything is here right now. The Marin countryside where this was shot is bursting with blooms, and we’ve got to enjoy it while it lasts!

Ultra Light Down by Uniqlo: The Best Winter Travel Jacket

uniqlo_ultra_light_down_best_winter_travel_jacket_champagne_for_everyday

Ultra light down is the ultimate weather travel accessory. In the last year, I visited over 20 cities for work and pleasure including Boston and Chicago in the middle of a deep freeze. When I lived in NYC my Canada Goose parka was my best friend, but it was impossible to pack for any of these trips because it’s so puffy!

As a frequent traveler I only use my favorite carry-on suitcase for most trips, thanks to the encouragement of my significant other. He learned to pack like a pro from the execs he works with  who travel 200 + days/year with just a carry on, but this is a real challenge for winter travel. I just can’t get on board with shoving my outerwear under airplane seats or in grimy overhead bins. Continue reading

Dreaming of Palm Trees With Lilly Pulitzer

lilly-pulitzer-blogger-photo-luci-v-neck-tunic

With unapologetic, playful prints that pack a colorful punch, Lilly Pulitzer has been the go-to resort wear brand for East Coast gals since the 1960’s. Nothing screams “I’m on vacation!” like a bold Lilly Pulitzer piece. Leave the black maxi dresses and boring neutrals at home and make a statement with designs that will get you in the mood for palm trees and sunshine. I’ve rocked  Lilly Pulitzer everywhere from the Hamptons to Hawaii, but Lilly prints are also ideal for California getaways any time of year since we’re lucky enough to have winter days warm enough for the beach!

Lilly prints look great with white, navy, and gold and her tunic tops are perfect to throw over a bikini. I love this coral print version!
