Have you ever pulled out your phone to check the time while you’re out with a friend, and then suddenly find yourself sucked into Instagram, work emails, or i-messages? Before you know it, you’re no longer paying attention to the person you’re having coffee with. I’m guilty of it too, and wearing a watch can solve the problem. Continue reading
The idea for pairing cut off denim with a business like blazer came to me one night in NYC, when we were on a rooftop having drinks. It had been so hot during the day, that I’d changed out of my dress and into cut offs and a silk tank after work. My boyfriend gave me his suit jacket to stay warm as the temperature dropped, and I actually loved how it looked with my cut off shorts. This combo is perfect for San Francisco, where a suit jacket only really looks right when it’s paired with a casual piece rather than a structured dress. I have so many blazers and silk tops from working in NYC, that I need to put them to use somehow and what better than in an unexpected combination with tattered shorts. I was struggling to recall when high waisted were first popular, and I realized that my earliest memory was seeing them in that movie. I was in grade school, and was probably wearing a miniature pair myself as I was watching it. It turns out that jeans have always been high waisted, from when women started wearing them in the 1940’s to work in factories during the war effort and right up to when low rise denim stole the show in the late 90’s. Lately, the low rise jean with it’s perpetual plumbers butt and the controversy about cutting off circulation (seriously?) has been replaced by the more flattering mid rise. Continue reading
